Police update 07.03.13

1. Take precaution during rainy weather

Motorists are once again being advised to drive with caution and care especially in light of the current weather conditions.

Members of the public are urged to limit movement during this time and be mindful of road rules to avoid any unnecessary loss of lives.

The Fiji Police Force is also calling on parents and guardians not to let their children play in flooded rivers or drains with children often wanting to take rain baths and go swimming during heavy downpours.

A renewed call is also being made to stock up on emergency essentials such as torches and batteries in light of unplanned power outages due to the weather.

2. Update: Stolen Cheque

Police have arrested the five suspects in relation to stolen cheque from Bio Security.

All the suspects are in custody for questioning.

3. Drowning

A 58 year old female of Muaninuku Village, Nabukelevu is the country’s latest drowning fatality.

The deceased left out fishing with two other villagers and while returning back to the shore they came across a deep passage with swift current.

The two reached the shore and noticed the decreased calling for help but they could not go back as the currents were very strong.

The two alerted the villagers and a search team left out and found the decreased floating at a nearby reef.

Her body is being kept at the Vunisea Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem.

The drowning toll now stands at 14 compared to 14 for the same period last year.
