PRESIDENTS OF FIJI AND BOLIVIA MEET IN SANTA CRUZ

His Excellency Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and Bolivian President HE Avo Marales.

Fiji’s past Chairmanship of the G77+China was commended by the President of Bolivia, His Excellency Evo Morales Ayma.

H.E conveyed his nation’s appreciation to Fiji’s chairmanship to the Fijian President His Excellency, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

President Morales said it had been a great honour for Bolivia to take the baton of chairmanship from Fiji at the beginning of 2014.

As he praised Fiji for the achievements of the Group of 77 under Fiji’s leadership in 2014, he also said he would always remember with affection his visit to Fiji in 2013 when he attended the G77 Eminent Personalities meeting in Natadola.

President Nailatikau said that he was very pleased to be reciprocating President Morales’s visit to Fiji. He said that his visit to Bolivia was the first occasion on which a Fijian President had been to Bolivia.

Recognizing this historic exchange of visits, the Presidents agreed that strengthening of ties between the two countries was most welcome.

President Nailatikau is in Bolivia to attend the Summit celebrating the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Group of 77 and China.

The Group has grown from its original membership of 77 in 1960, to its current membership of 133 developing countries. The Summit is being held in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz.

President Nailatikau will deliver a Fiji statement at the plenary of Summit this morning.
