Dear Prime Minister,

On behalf of the Government and people of Fiji, I extend my warmest congratulations to you and your Conservative Party colleagues on your decisive victory in the British elections.

The Fijian people value both their historical links with Britain and the quality of our current relationship. I know we are both especially proud of the service being given to uphold our common values by Fijian members of the British Armed Forces.

I want to thank you for your undertakings during the election campaign that Britain will continue to be fully engaged with the global community and maintain its spending on development assistance.

I also seek Britain’s continuing support in our effort to persuade the international community to step up its commitment to tackle the effects of climate change. Rising sea levels are already having a serious impact on Pacific Island communities and an urgent global response is required to avert catastrophe.

Fiji also intends to play a positive role in the Commonwealth and I look forward to meeting you at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Malta in November.

With every best wish to you and the British people.

Yours sincerely,

J.V Bainimarama

Prime Minister
