Veteran fund scheme to take Shape

All funds collected from the 2014 RC Manubhai/Apco Coatings Fiji International Veterans tournament will be put under a fund to assist the children of former national football reps.

This announcement was made as the Veterans tournament got underway at Prince Charles Park in Nadi earlier on Thursday evening.

The veteran’s tournament is jointly organised by Fiji FA and New Zealand Fiji FA INC.

Mohammed Yusuf who is also the Fiji FA liaison officer in NZ elaborated further.

“All funds collected from this tournament will not go to Fiji FA but to a fund which will be used to assist the children of the former Fiji internationals. We will be assisting in mostly getting the basic needs of the children,” Yusuf said.

More details on the fund will be released soon.

12 teams are part of the tournament this year with three teams from New Zealand and one from United States of America.

Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel says the veteran’s tournament which has become an annual event continues to grow.

“This indeed is a very special event for Fiji FA. The former reps have entertained the fans for a number of years and it is only fitting to hold a veterans tournament which gives an opportunity to these players to celebrate their achievements and as well the young generation to see who this prominent figures were,” Patel said.

The winner of the 2014 RC Manubhai/Apco Coatings Fiji International Veterans tournament gets $4000 while runner up $2000. The two losing semifinalist will get $500 each.
