Royal Australian Navy Rear Vice Admiral Ray Griggs paid a courtesy call to the Honorable Minister for Immigration, National Security and Defence Timoci Lesi Natuva on Monday December 8.

Rear Vice Admiral Griggs was accompanied by the Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, Margaret Twomey.

In receiving Rear Vice Admiral Griggs on behalf of the Fijian Government, Minister Natuva said the visit will strengthen ties between Fiji and Australia.

The two discussed new areas of cooperation in national security and defence between the two nations.

Rear Vice Admiral Griggs also visited the National War Memorial site in Veiuto to commemorate the fallen soldiers who had served during the World War I.

He also met the Republic of the Fiji Military Force acting commander, Brigadier General Mohammed Aziz and his senior staff for a roundtable discussion at the RFMF Strategic Headquarters, Berkley Crescent.

RFMF chief of staff and Land force Commander Lieutenant Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho said the meeting was encouraging and they looked forward to more meetings in the future.

“We do appreciate their interest in re-engaging with the Fijian army defence force and we are hopeful of more meetings of this nature in the future,” Lieutenant Colonel Qiliho said.
