Westpac launches unique benefits Classic Visa credit card

Westpac today launched its first Visa credit card in Fiji, offering customers one of the lowest interest rate products in the market and free travel insurance.

Speaking at the launch which was held at Courts Store in Samabula, Suva, Adrian Hughes, General Manager, Westpac Fiji said, “One of Westpac’s goals is to make banking easier and our new Classic Visa credit card is just one way we’re making this a reality. The card is another payment method for Fijians that’s accepted in tens of millions of location in more than 200 countries and territories around the world. It really gives cardholders the ability to buys things at a host of places, online or access cash when in need.”

“In fact that’s the focus of our marketing campaign. We think our card let’s cardholders do things and go places – in short, gives them the freedom to better manage their money.”

Mr Hughes, a keen sportsman, then demonstrated the ease of using the card for purchases by buying an exercise  bike from Courts. The transaction took less than a minute to process. He also made an online purchase using the card which also took less than a minute, showing the flexibility and convenience the card offers customers.

With an annual interest rate of 19.5 per cent, the Westpac Classic Visa credit card boasts one of the lowest rates in the market. There is no joining fee or annual fee for the first year and cardholders will receive up to 55 days interest free on purchases.

“A unique feature of the card is the free travel insurance that comes when using the card to make travel purchases. The Overseas Transport Inconvenience Insurance which provides benefits for delayed flights, a missed connection or even if your luggage has been delayed by four hours.

“For example, if on your overseas flight of two hours or more and your luggage containing your clothes and toiletries is delayed in getting to you for more than four hours, the cardholder is entitled to charge up the cost for clothing and toiletries on the their Westpac Classic Visa credit card up to a certain value,” said Mr Hughes.

“The Overseas Transport Accident Insurance feature is another benefit in the unfortunate case of accidental death or injury for travel overseas bought on the Westpac Classic Visa credit card. So cardholders can do things and go places with greater peace of mind.”

The Westpac Classic Visa credit card is the bank’s first Visa credit card product from a suite of proposed Visa products for the business and consumer markets. Its graphic design incorporates streamlined curves and patterns found in many Pacific cultures.

Westpac operates in seven Pacific countries – Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands and Samoa – through its network of more than 50 branches, 100 ATMs, thousands of merchants and In-Store Banking facilities.
