POLICE NEWS UPDATES

Youth to appear for series of alleged thefts

Five youth aged between 14 to 17 years of age will be produced at the Nasinu Magistrates Court this morning.

The group is alleged to be involved in a series of car break-ins last week in the Nasinu area.

The accused had allegedly broken into 5 vehicles and sold the items in Suva whereby they allegedly spent the money on alcohol.

They have all been charged with damaging property and theft and also have other similar cases pending in court.

This recent case is indeed worrying as these youth are now having to deal with the law rather than focusing on preparing themselves for the future that lies ahead.

We are urging others in the same age group not to be easily involved in such illegal activities for the sole purpose of a few hours of enjoyment which in turn affects their future.

We are pleading with parents and guardians to talk to their children about the consequences of getting involved in such activities.

The Fiji Police Force will continue to issue such advisories as we don’t want to have other youths getting caught on the wrong side of the law.

OFFICERS SUSPENDED

Two Police officers at the Lautoka Police station have been charged with disciplinary offences and are awaiting internal tribunal proceedings.

The decision was made by the Acting Commissioner of Police Ravi Narayan following an investigation into the alleged assault of a minor.

The findings of the internal investigation found that the two officers had allegedly breached police practices and procedures in dealing with a person kept in police custody.

The two remain suspended pending the outcome of the internal tribunal.

The head of the Fiji Police Force has once again reiterated that he will not condone or entertain any officers who abuse their power while executing their duties.

ALLEGED DROWNING

The bodies of two youth were found yesterday after a two day search in the Nadi River.

The two aged 15 and 17 had gone swimming on Saturday afternoon along the Namotomoto area and after they failed to return a search was conducted immediately after.

The search continued on Sunday however had negative results.

Yesterday morning the search continued whereby the two’s bodies were found a few meters down the river.

 Investigations continue.
