AOG stun Marist

By LAURA MACINTOSH

There was somewhat of an upset at Albert Park this afternoon, when the team from Assemblies’ of God High School (AOG) defeated Marist Brothers High School to progress to the Under-18 boys’ final of the Suva Secondary Schools’ Competition.

AOG won the toss and sent Marist into bat, who got off to a flying start thanks to opener and former Fiji Under-19 representative, Sagaitu Konusi, who starred with 44 runs.  Also the Marist captain, Itu steered his side to a respectable total of 4-85 after their allotted ten overs, meaning AOG would have to dig deep with the bat if they were to win.

In the first innings Tuitoga finished with the best bowling figures for AOG, taking one wicket for ten runs off two overs.

AOG got off to a solid start with the bat in the second innings, however it was no easy run chase, particular thanks to the economical bowling of Marist’s Inoke (1-5 off one over).  However first drop for AOG, Tuberi, held steady to finish on 36 not out, guiding his team to a seven-wicket win, and a spot in the U18 boys’ semi final.

The semi-finals of the Suva Secondary Schools’ Competition will continue at Albert Park tomorrow morning, with play commencing at 10am.
