The Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Hon. Faiyaz Siddiq Koya met with the Ambassador of Pakistan H.E. Naela Chohan on

“We had very good discussions on developing Fijian-Pakistani bilateral relations not just between the two Governments, but also amongst the businesses of our countries”, said the Minister.

“Enhancing trade and investment between two countries was one of the key issues discussed. In this regard, a Trade and Economic Cooperation Agreement was proposed together with a Memorandum of Understanding between Investment Fiji and Pakistan Investment Board.

To further this initiative, a draft Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding will be sent to H.E. Chohan to initiate the discussions”, added Minister Koya. This will form the basis of greater mutually beneficial economic and trade links between the two countries.

“Other areas of interest to both parties where cooperation was discussed, included tourism, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, investments and skilled labour in the field of textile”, added the Minister.

“Given that Pakistan is positioning itself as the gateway to central Asia, we need to capitalise on the opportunities that exist in Pakistan and within its vicinity, as there is a lot of untapped potential for Fiji, more so as we are the transportation and trade hub of the Pacific.
