In just three short weeks, two Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) crews have made a difference to Taveuni’s South Coast and North Coast Roads.
Mr Scott Wilkinson, FHH Construction Manager, North, said that a total of 21,500 square metres of road had been stabilised and sealed by the Vanua Levu-based, 12-member Construction Crew and the eight-man Sealing Crew.
“This counts as a big achievement in terms of road repairs on Taveuni; the 21500 square metres of work translates into patch repair works which were undertaken along a six kilometre length of road. The boys did a big, big effort,” said Mr Wilkinson.
This work is part of the FHH JV’s annual works programme throughout the northern division and part of the commitment of FHH working closely with the Fiji Roads Authority to improve Fiji’s road network.
Mr Wilkinson said that this was the second visit to Taveuni by the Northern Construction and Sealing Crews, with the previous work being carried out in November last year when some 6,000 square metres of road were repaired by stabilization and sealing.
“Since then, a lot of other maintenance has been carried out, but it is mainly pothole repairs on the sealed pavement. It is only viable to repair Taveuni roads by stabilise and seal once a year, due to the logistics involved in transporting large machinery and materials to the island.
“There were a lot of patches completed in a very short time and I’m very proud of my teams achievements and I trust the locals are also impressed with the outcome,” said Mr Wilkinson.
