Hindus are critical of Australia’s new asylum policy saying that it is trying to avoid the responsibility.
Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed (pictured above), in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that it was highly irresponsible for developed sixth-largest country in the world with comparatively small population to pass on its burden to developing and smaller neighbor Papua New Guinea.
Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed that adequate safeguards and protection standards should be made available to the refugees and asylum seekers.
Australian measures for asylum-seekers needed to be looked at and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres should urgently intervene, Rajan Zed stated.
Zed noted that Australia and world should show some maturity and be more kind to migrants and refugees, who might be fleeing persecution and discrimination. All were equal in God’s eyes.
Rajan Zed urged Australian Catholic Bishops Conference and General Synod of the Anglican Church of Australia to come out and openly speak against the Australia’s new asylum policy as religion told us to help the helpless.
Reports suggest that expropriation and discrimination of aboriginal people of Australia during the last two centuries, who have lived in the continent for thousands of years before the colonization, have resulted in drastic reduction of their population, Zed adds.
