The Fijian Government’s commitment to a clean environment means it focuses on the correct collection and disposal of waste

The Minister for Industry Trade and Tourism, Local Government, Housing and Community Development, Hon. Premila Kumar, in saying this, handed over two brand-new garbage compactor trucks to the Nasinu Town Council today.

“The Fijian Government recognizes the need to create a cleaner environment and waste free public spaces,” Minister Kumar said.

“Every community wants an environment free of rubbish.”

The Government of Japan provided assistance worth FJ$449,542 to the council for the procurement of the two 9 tonne garbage compactor trucks.

In attendance was the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Fiji H.E Masahiro Omura who handed over the trucks to Minister Kumar.

“Waste Management is not only about sanitation, hygiene and disease control, it is also for preserving and protecting our environment,” Ambassador Omura said.

Omura said Fiji, since its COP23 presidency, played a leading role in this area.
