Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama paid a surprise visit today to senior residents and staff at the Golden Age Home in Lautoka.

Accompanied by his family, the head of the Fijian government took time to meet with the senior citizens living at the nursing home in Natabua, Lautoka.

For the home’s supervisor, Ms Tara Naresh, today’s visit by the Prime Minister was a gesture that was appreciated by everyone, particularly for the residents at the home.

“It was really nice of the Prime Minister to come and see us; many of these residents don’t have a family and their faces lit up when they saw him coming”, Ms Naresh said.

Ms Naresh also requested the Prime Minister to look into assisting them with repair works at the home including a new walkway to shelter the residents. The Prime Minister communicated this request to the Divisional Commissioner Western Manasa Tagicakibau to carry out inspection at the home and to facilitate repair works.

The Golden Age Home which currently looks after more than 40 senior citizens, was the former site of the Natabua Primary School in the 1960s. Prime Minister Bainimarama attended the same primary school before it relocated.
