Response from Digicel Fiji regarding the opening of the e-ticketing market

By MAURICE McCARTHY – CEO, DIGICEL FIJI

As you are aware, the e-ticketing market has been opened to competition by the Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General, Mr. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum as of today. This after consultations took place among key stakeholders such as the Attorney General’s Office, LTA, Ministry of Transport, Works and Public Utilities and the Fiji Commerce Commission.

We would like to thank each of these parties for their positive response and in moving Fiji towards a competitive E-Ticketing sector. We believe this move by the Government facilitated by the parties above and the Attorney General will result in a better grade of service at a competitive price. As the platform has now been opened up we are in a position to formally engage with the operators and we look forward to doing so in the coming days.

Digicel Fiji is fully committed to making this project viable and successful. Furthermore, with full co-operation from all stakeholders involved, we are certain that we can make a difference and help the e-ticketing project reach its full potential. We are also looking at different card options to determine how we can make these more affordable for our customers in the short, medium and long term.

We would also like to thank the Bus Operators, especially those who have supported our inclusion as this is a great achievement for the Government, Digicel, the Bus Operators and most importantly the end Consumer.

Finally, we truly look forward to working with the bus operators on this project.
