Digicel enters conditional sale agreement to purchase Telecom New Zealand’s share of Cook Islands Telecom

31st March 2014, Singapore:  Today, Digicel Group confirmed that it has entered into a conditional sale agreement to purchase Telecom New Zealand’s 60% shareholding in Telecom Cook Islands Limited (‘TCIL’).

Subject to the satisfactory conclusion of the conditions of sale before 31st May 2014, Digicel will acquire Telecom New Zealand’s interest in the incumbent telecommunications provider in the Cook Islands.  The other 40% of TCIL is owned by the Government of the Cook Islands.

Digicel Group CEO Colm Delves commented; “Providing the conditions of sale are concluded, this would see an expansion of Digicel’s Asia Pacific business to the Cook Islands.

Currently, Digicel Group has operations in 32 markets, including six Pacific Island markets, as well as a thriving business in Australia and New Zealand to service the Pacific Island Diaspora community.
