FIJIAN PRESIDENT RECEIVES THE CREDENTIALS OF NEW FOREIGN ENVOYS

Two new foreign diplomatic envoys presented their credentials to His Excellency the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau at Government House this morning.

The non-resident Ambassador for the Kingdom of Spain to Fiji, His Excellency Manuel De La Torre presented his credentials this morning to the Fijian Head of State. Ambassador De La Torre served in the Spanish Foreign Service as a career diplomat since 1974 after completing diplomatic studies.

He has a degree in Law from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain 1969 before which he attend schools in Netherlands, Argentina and Algiers.

Also presenting her credentials this morning was the new non-resident High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Fiji, Her Excellency Naela Chohan.

High Commissioner Chohan has a background in languages and a Doctorate of Philosophy Session Certificate from Centre des Etudes Diplomatique & Stratigique in Paris. She started her diplomatic career in 1986 and has served in Iran, Malaysia and Canada as Pakistan’s High Commissioner.

Prior to her appointment as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Australia, she was Additional Foreign Secretary (Middle East & Africa), Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.  Ms Chohan is fluent in Urdu, English, French, Persian, Spanish and Bengali. She is also accredited to Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.
