Nadi, March 18, 2015 – Tourism Fiji today revealed its plans for kick-starting the wave of happiness to celebrate the UN endorsed International Happiness Day by launching a campaign to increase awareness about the globally significant day, and to help profile what Fiji is doing with the intention of ‘owning’ Happiness which starts at home.

The International Day of Happiness is celebrated on 20 March every year since 2013 and Fiji is one of the first countries in the world to wake up to the day of Happiness. People from around the world will get a chance to win a trip to Fiji simply by being part of the campaign.

Fiji will be the ‘spark’ that ignites the celebration of happiness before spreading it across the globe through social media. Before International Happiness Day, on Wednesday 18 March, Fiji is asking the world to join the #FijiHappy Thunderclap to spread happiness around the globe. You are invited to join the Thunderclap, where we will release a wave of sunkissed Fijian happiness across the internet. As part of the campaign, a group of four world-class influential Instagrammers will be sent to Fiji ‘the happiest place on earth’ to capture Fijian happiness, share it with the world and launch International Day of Happiness during a special dawn ceremony on 20 March.

People will be encouraged to post an image of ‘what makes them happy’ to Instagram using the hashtag #fijihappy. People can also visit the microsite and enter their details and image for a chance to win the grand prize of a trip to Fiji. Tourism Fiji is expecting to reach out to a total of five million people through this social-driven campaign.

Tourism Fiji will also be kick-starting a few local events as part of the campaign. Brief details of the event are as follows; Thursday 19 March – arrival of winners at Nadi Airport
5.30am, Friday 20 March – Happiness Dawn Breakfast at Sofitel.
