1. CABINET APPROVES PUBLIC HOLIDAYS FOR 2015 – Cabinet has approved the public holidays for 2015. Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment, Mr Jone Usamate.
2. CABINET APPROVES MOU WITH THINK PACIFIC FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT – Cabinet has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Think Pacific and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for Cooperation in the field of Youth Development.
3. CABINET APPROVES FIJI’S PARTICIPATION AT THE 103RD SESSION OF THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR CONFERENCE, GENEVA AND THE 321ST SESSION OF THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANIZATION’S GOVERNING BODY – Fiji will participate in the 103rd session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva from the 28th of May to 12th June 2014, as well as in the 321ST session of the International Labour Organization’s Governing Body in Geneva on the 13th of June 2014.
4. CABINET APPROVES MOU BETWEEN THE FIJI POLICE FORCE AND THE ROYAL SOLOMON ISLANDS POLICE FORCE – Cabinet has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Police cooperation between the Fiji Police Force and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.
1. CABINET APPROVES PUBLIC HOLIDAYS FOR 2015
Cabinet has approved the public holidays for 2015. Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment, Mr Jone Usamate.
The dates for the 2015 public holidays are as follows:
· New Year’s Day – Thursday, 1st January
· Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday – Monday, 5th January
· Good Friday – Friday, 03rdApril
· Easter Saturday – Saturday, 04thApril
· Easter Monday – Monday, 06thApril
· Fiji Day – Saturday, 10th October
· Diwali – Wednesday,11th November
· Christmas Day – Friday, 25th December
· Boxing Day Holiday – Monday, 28th December
In addition to the above public holidays, Cabinet has also approved a National Sports Day public holiday. The date of this public holiday shall be finalised by the Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations and employment, and the Minister for Youth and Sports.
The ten public holiday dates shall be gazetted as Public Holidays for 2015 by the Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment.

2. CABINET APPROVES MOU WITH THINK PACIFIC FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Cabinet has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Think Pacific and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for Cooperation in the field of Youth Development.
Think Pacific is a United Kingdom based organization which provides funding, planning and logistical support to local partners in Fiji to enable them to achieve specific development objectives. Think Pacific has successfully implemented community and village programs and projects in Fiji since 2009.
Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Commander Viliame Naupoto.
The Minister said that collaboration with Think Pacific will assist the Ministry of Youth and Sports reach out effectively to the greater youth populous and address the eight thematic areas of concern as highlighted in the National Youth Policy.
The provision of necessary support, resources and funding by Think Pacific will further assist in youth empowerment and development.
Youth population in Fiji accounts to approximately 44.5% of Fiji’s population (15-35 years). Youth Development according to the National Youth Policy has been mainstreamed into the various focal areas of national development.

3. CABINET APPROVES FIJI’S PARTICIPATION AT THE 103RD SESSION OF THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR CONFERENCE, GENEVA AND THE 321ST SESSION OF THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANIZATION’S GOVERNING BODY
Fiji will participate in the 103rd session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva from the 28th of May to 12th June 2014, as well as in the 321ST session of the International Labour Organization’s Governing Body in Geneva on the 13th of June 2014.
Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment, Mr Jone Usamate.
The Minister said that in accordance with Article 3 (1) of the ILO Constitution, a delegation to the International Labour Conference is to comprise of four delegates: namely two senior Government delegates, one delegate representing the Employers and one delegate representing the Workers.
He said that the two most representative organizations representing the employers and the workers in Fiji, namely, the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF) and the Fiji Trades Union Congress (FTUC) shall form part of the tripartite delegation.
Cabinet has agreed that the Government delegation be led by the Labour Minister and supported by the Permanent Secretary for Labour and Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Ambassador Nazhat Shameem.
The Government delegation shall participate at the 321st Session of the International Labour Organization’s Governing Body (ILO GB) on Friday, 13th June 2013.
The Minister for Labour shall address the Conference Plenary and the Minister’s Conference and hold consultative meetings with the ILO Director General, the ILO Director for International Labour Standards and relevant ILO Governing Body executives.

4. CABINET APPROVES MOU BETWEEN THE FIJI POLICE FORCE AND THE ROYAL SOLOMON ISLANDS POLICE FORCE
Cabinet has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Police cooperation between the Fiji Police Force and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.
Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the acting Minister for Defence, National Security and Immigration, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Commander Viliame Naupoto.
The MOU provides a framework for cooperation and assistance through mutual support and benefits between the Fiji Police Force and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.
The Minister said that the MOU primarily focuses on capacity building and knowledge sharing by way of exchange and secondment programmes along with sharing of best practices.
The Minister further said that the two Police institutions shall be required to establish Working Groups to implementing the details of the MOU.
