POLICE COMMISSIONER’S STATEMENT ON THE ARREST OF JOSEVA BILITAKI

STATEMENT

I am aware of the case of Mr Joseva Bilitaki and can confirm his arrest by a task team on Friday 26/09/14 at about 2230hrs.

He was detained at the Totogo Police Station for the alleged offence of annoyance which is in contravention to Section 376 of the Crimes Decree.

On Saturday 1500hrs Mr Bilitaki fell ill and was released and taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where he received medical treatment for high blood pressure.

I visited him earlier today and he is in a satisfactory condition. The allegation of assault against Mr Bilitaki is void of all truth. I am urging people not to jump to conclusion on what they read on social media.

The case is under investigation and will be submitted to the Office of Director Public Prosecution once completed.

The interference of military personnel in policing issues is unacceptable and will be discussed with the relevant authority.

B.J.J GROENEWALD

COMMISSIONER OF POLICE
