POLICE MEDIA RELEASE
Alleged Student Assault
Two separate investigations are underway into the alleged assault of two students.
The first incident was recorded at the Vunidawa Police Station whereby a Class one student sustained bruises after being allegedly hit by his school teacher. In the second incident reported at the Rakiraki Police Station, a 6 year old student was allegedly assaulted by his school teacher on three different occasions for within the last two weeks.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be brought in for questioning.
The post mortem of the 49 year old woman who was a victim of a fatal accident on Monday morning has been conducted.
Results indicate the cause of death to be consistent to injuries sustained as a result of a motor vehicle accident. The 51 year old driver of the vehicle where the woman was traveling in is currently admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital and will only be interviewed once clearance has been given by medical authorities.
Police officers have been told to monitor overloaded buses following media reports. The fact that bus drivers continue to blatantly disregard the law is a serious concern.
