PREPARATIONS RAMP UP FOR 2014 ELECTION

MINFO

Preparations are underway in earnest to assemble the materials needed throughout the country to conduct the 2014 election.

The Bainimarama Government is inviting companies within Fiji and abroad to register their interest in supplying such items as ballot boxes, polling kits, ink, voting booths and voting screens.

They’re being asked to submit Expressions of Interest to the Acting Permanent Secretary Responsible for Elections, Ms Mere Vuniwaqa by February 28th.

Only companies that register will be able to lodge tenders to supply those materials when the tender deadlines are eventually announced.

The Attorney General and Minister Responsible For Elections, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, said interested companies would be required to meet several accepted international standards. These include being registered suppliers with the United Nations General Marketplace, guaranteeing to meet supply deadlines and providing warranties for the goods provided.

“We invite all interested companies to register as soon as possible and to contribute to this landmark event in Fiji’s history – the introduction of the first genuine parliamentary democracy based on the principle of one person, one vote, one value.

“The Bainimarama Government is determined not only to meet its election deadline of September 2014 but to conduct the poll to the very highest international standards”, the Minister added.
