Fijians living in rural areas will be able to access basic infrastructure at their doorsteps in the near future.

This as Government continues to ensure that its development priorities are focused towards all Fijians so that they are able to contribute positively towards their families, communities and the nation as a whole.

The Honorable Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Joeli Cawaki made these comments during a visitation to Yawe village in Kadavu earlier this week.

“Government aims to provide the basic infrastructure in all islands and rural areas in Fiji to assist you better to move towards prosperity,” Mr Cawaki said.

“We understand that for too long you have been neglected and starved of proper roads, health care facilities, water and other services.”

The meeting was also attended by villagers of Dagai, Talaulia and Lomati of the Nabukelevu district where Mr Cawaki informed them of Government’s plans to construct a road that reaches Yawe and its nearby villagers.

“Travelling by boat is too costly and dangerous during stormy conditions and Government believes the construction of a road would assist spur economic activities in the area,” Mr Cawaki said.

“Recently a health centre was built here for the first time and is accessible to almost 1000 villagers in the two districts of Nabukelevu and Yawe and most developments will come.”

He added that empowering people living in rural communities is one of the key priorities of the FijiFirst Government.
