VICC to face Ono-I-Lau in Suva A-Grade final

The first round of finals in the Suva Cricket Association’s club competition last weekend did not disappoint when it came to delivering exciting matches and close results.

In the first semi-final for the A-Grade, VICC defeated a spirited Nasaqalau side, to reach this week’s A-Grade final.  Batting first VICC made 177 runs, which Nasaqalau, who were new to the competition in the 2013/14 season, only fell short to by 29 runs.

The second semi-final saw Ono-I-Lau hold off SGSOB by just nine runs, after posting a first innings total of 120 runs off their designated 20 overs.

The close results in the Premier Grade semi-finals further reiterated the increase in standard the Suva Cricket League has seen this season.  In semi-final one Yadrana batted first and were bowled out by Komo for just 66 runs.

However, it was clearly not a batters pitch, with Yadrana going on to win by ten runs.  In the second semi-final between Army and Sarafui, the unbeaten Perpetual Cup champions were also surprisingly bowled out for less than 100 runs, however the underdog once again fell short, this time by 13 runs.

This means that VICC will now face Ono-I-Lau in the A-Grade, whilst Army and Yadrana will face off for the Premier Grade title.
