The three winning entries of the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) in-house competition to design a new national flag for Fiji have been entered into the national flag design competition.

This was announced by WAF CEO, CEO Opetaia Ravai, while presenting the three WAF employees with their prizes for the in-house competition.

Mr Ravai said, “It is a good show of patriotism amongst our staff to be able to contribute to something of very important national significance, the design of our new Fiji Flag.”

He said that symbols used in the winning design refer to our culture and heritage, with the coconut tree representing our island nation, the Masi directly relating to the iTaukei tradition and culture, the 15 stars depicting the provinces and Rotuma, the dove, a symbol of peace and unity and the blue background for the ‘noble banner blue’ in the National Anthem.

Mitesh Baran, whose design has won top prize, said he wanted to show something which directly relates to the Fijian tradition and culture and that he entered the competition because of his love for his country.

Second prize went to Albert Burt and third prize went to Lavinia Vulawalu.
