WOMEN MINISTER HEADS FOR PUBLIC CONSULTATIONS IN WEST

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Children has organized further public consultation in the Western Division next week to raise awareness on welfare programmes offered by the Fijian Government.

The three public consultations will be held in Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki from Wednesday 21 to Friday 23 January, 2015.

The Hon. Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar is urging the general public in west to take advantage of this opportunity provided.

The consultations will be chaired by Minister and the senior staff at the Ministry will attend to any issues concerning social welfare, women and child protection.

“The Ministry is advising the people of Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki to visit us at these consultations. We will be addressing any issues concerning social welfare, women, senior citizens, children and persons living with disabilities.  Public consultation is one of the ways to increase reach out to people in rural areas and for them to access information on the social welfare reforms,” Mrs Akbar said.

“So far the Ministry has advised more than 900 people through the consultations. It enables the Ministry to swiftly respond to any pending welfare case and at the same time identify the new families who will be assisted through the social welfare schemes. We also encourage the Non-Government Organisations, community leaders and social workers to visit us at these consultations and it’s also an opportunity for them to establish network with this Ministry,” Mrs she said.
