Rehabilitation is yet to start in Nadi as people of the interior villages are still crying out for help after the damages that TC Evan and floods caused late last year.

Speaking to the group of media who were assigned to tour the affected areas, Nadi Divisional Officer Peni Koro said there are a lot of places destructed by the cyclone and the rehabilitation is still in process.

“Votualevu and Sabeto were affected the most out of all areas but due to non availability of funds, we are doing everything we can to help the people in need,” he said.

Koro mentioned that they have already provided for the needy ones.

“Sometimes we work odd hours to help the people but we cannot satisfy everyone,” he said.

He also said they also need more of government assistance in order to help the people out there and get them back in track with their life.

“The budget is not up to standard right now and we need more money for rehabilitation work,” he said.

A total of 34,000 affected people were recorded to have no financial background and depend entirely on the land.
